Freelance opportunities

Development control

We are keen to hear from people who might be interested in conducting consultancy assignments for TRA on a freelance basis. Specifically, this would involve working on procedural reviews for development control and production of online DC procedure guides. This is done on an individual contract basis, so would particularly suit people who are already freelance or are considering becoming freelance, and possibly those who work part time. Although in theory this can be combined with a 'day job', you would need to be available to work away for up to three days at a time, and to travel to any part of the UK.

We are especially interested in people with experience/expertise in development control at the sharp end, including its organisation and administration, and in IT applications in planning.

At the moment, we are adding to our consultancy team on an ad-hoc basis, as the right person comes along, rather than aiming to fill a vacancy within a particular timescale.

If you are interested in pursuing the idea then please email brief details of your background and what you could offer to jobs@tra-ltd.co.uk. It is not necessary to send a full CV or to spend too much time on this initial contact. If it looks as though you might fit the bill, we will contact you to take things further.

Although this invitation is a little speculative, we have engaged people who have responded to similar invitations in the past so it is definitely worth a try if you are looking for a new challenge or a possible career change.

Sustainability, Regeneration, Economic Development

As part of the expansion of our services, we are developing a package of training beyond our traditional focus of town planning. New topics will include sustainability, regeneration & development and funding advocacy. We are looking for new presenters to deliver one-day workshops on these topics to a range of local government disciplines, including planning.

If you are an experienced practitioner, from either the public or private sector, with a sound knowledge of these subject areas and are interested in becoming a presenter, and broadening your skills, please get in touch by email to jobs@tra-ltd.co.uk

Urban design

As part of the expansion of our services, we are also extending our range of urban design training for those involved in planning and other areas of local government. We are looking for a qualified and experienced Landscape Architect to join our team of presenters to develop and deliver new workshops. Initially you would provide a landscape perspective of urban design schemes although in time we plan to further expand the range of topics. We therefore require someone with a broad range of experience preferably including public realm design, housing (and other developments), and the design and management of public open space.

If you have this type of experience and are familiar with the interaction between landscape practitioners and others involved in urban design and are interested in a new challenge, please get in touch by email to jobs@tra-ltd.co.uk.
