Project management
Development and regeneration staff are expected to manage projects of varying size and complexity, sometimes delivered in partnership with other bodies. This workshop examines the principles of project management and monitoring and considers the tools and techniques that are available to assist. It places particular emphasis on the use of Prince 2, which is actively promoted by Government for use in public sector project management.
Specific aspects covered include:
- the purpose of effective project management
- typical types of project – capital and revenue
- identifying project risk
- the component parts and milestones of a project
- an overview of project management tools and how to match the tool with the project
- Working with Prince 2 – basic principles; project planning; managing and controlling a project
- closing a project and evaluating its success.
