Appearing at Hearings
In the past, Scotland has not fully embraced hearings as a method of deciding appeals. However, it is now clear from the modernising agenda that much more use will be made of them. It will become essential for all development planners (and other practitioners) to become familiar with the style and format of hearings, which require different skills from the more familiar Public Inquiries. This highly practical workshop, which includes a mock hearing exercuise, is designed to: explain what hearings are; improve both preparation and presentational skills; and enhance the overall confidence of those involved.

PARTICIPANT COMMENTS:
"Course was a good all round consideration of different aspects of Hearings. "
Iain Jeffrey, Stirling Council
"I certainly have a clearer understanding of the hearings process in terms of procedure and expectations of planning officers by Inspectors. I now feel more confident in preparing for appeals and what to expect on the day."
"Course was well structured and useful. First half provided excellent details of how hearings worked, and the second half provided a useful role play opportunity to try and use the experience/knowledge described. Good to try and banish the initial nerves."
Phil Cousins, Preston City Council
