Training Programmes
Training for Planning and Development Practitioners 2010 (Scotland)
We have a well established programme of training workshops specifically for planning and development staff in Scotland. These are for limited numbers of participants (maximum of 20) under the direction of one (or in some cases two) of our team of presenters. Workshops are participatory, involving discussion, exercises, and case study consideration, as well as key input by the presenters themselves, all of whom are not only expert practitioners but also good at getting material across in a "user-friendly" manner.
Details for each event are shown below. Click on the event title for more detailed information in the form of a pdf leaflet/booking form for each individual event. A discounted block booking form can be downloaded via the link on the right hand side of this page.
If the date against a particular event is showing as 'TBC', this means the workshop has already run this year, but further dates will be added once they have been confirmed.

It provides an overview of how the development management process works in practice and a step-by-step guide to dealing with planning applications in a precise and systematic manner in the context of the recent changes to legislation in Scotland.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss issues informally and test their skills in a practical way through consideration of case studies. Topics covered include: the definition of development, permitted development rights and changes of use; pre-application procedures and practice; changes to the front end processing of applications: assessing the merits of an application; the development plan and other material considerations; writing reports; using conditions; reasons for refusal: and appeals.
