Rail Travel Directions
Taxis are, of course, available at the station. But weather permitting, it is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. When you emerge from the station, turn left along Station Road. Keep walking as Station Road changes into Museum Street. When you get to where Petergate crosses Museum Street, cross over into Minster Yd/Deangate (York Minster on your left). Follow through the Monkbar Gate to the traffic lights. You will see the hotel across the road on your right.
Road Travel Directions
FROM THE A64: Take the turning to York off the A64, signposted to Hull and the A1079. Take the left hand lane to York City Centre. Then follow the Main Road right into York. You will arrive at the City walls, at a set of traffic lights and a T junction. Get in the right hand lane. With the walls on your left hand side follow that road (landmarks are MFI, Kwikfit, Office World, Majestic Wines). The walls then disappear and the canal is on the left hand side. You will come to a large set of traffic lights and you need to be in the centre lane - signposted to Scarborough (don't panic!) Go straight ahead. You are now in a one-way system. The city walls will again be on your left. You will pass Sainsbury's and then the Monkbar Hotel is next on the right. Turn into the carpark just before the hotel.
FROM THE A59 - HARROGATE ROAD: Approach York and follow the signs for the City Centre. At the first large crossroads with traffic lights, take the left hand lane signed to the east Coast and Clifton. Follow that road over the railway and across the river up to a T junction. Take the right hand lane. Follow the road right down Bootham to another T junction. Take the left hand turn into Gillygate. Follow that road to another set of traffic lights and take the right hand lane onto Lord Mayor's Walk and follow that road down to the traffic lights. The Monkbar Hotel is then directly in front of you but in order to reach the carpark you have to go round the one-way system. Turn left and then right at the roundabout, staying in the right hand lane past Homebase and Sainsburys. The hotel is on your right with the carpark immediately before the hotel. FROM THE A19: Follow the directions for York City Centre and you will come to Clifton. Follow the main road until you reach a T junction with traffic lights. The entry to the city through the Bar is right in front of you. Take the left turn into Gillygate and then follow the directions as above from the A59.
